SAVOIR Institute for Payer Configuration is a professional education and credentialing organization dedicated specifically to healthcare payer configuration.
We exist to strengthen how configuration competency is developed, demonstrated, and recognized—for the professionals who do the work and the organizations that depend on it.
WHY SAVOIR EXISTS
Healthcare payer configuration is highly specialized work. Configuration professionals translate benefits, reimbursement requirements, contracts, policies, and operational rules into the systems that determine how healthcare transactions are processed.
The consequences of that work can be significant. Configuration decisions can affect claims adjudication, provider reimbursement, member cost share, benefit administration, and downstream health plan operations.
Yet configuration competency can be difficult to evaluate.
Résumés tell us where someone has worked. Job titles tell us what a role was called. Years of experience tell us how long someone has been in the field. Training certificates tell us that someone completed a course.
None of those, by themselves, demonstrate what a configuration professional actually knows or can do.
SAVOIR was created to address that gap.
OUR APPROACH
SAVOIR approaches payer configuration as a professional discipline with identifiable knowledge, responsibilities, and levels of competency.
Our credential framework is designed to distinguish between professional, advanced, and leadership-level competency while recognizing that responsibility changes throughout a configuration career.
Education can help professionals build knowledge. Assessment provides an opportunity to demonstrate competency. Credentialing provides a recognizable way to communicate that achievement. Independent verification allows employers, clients, and other stakeholders to confirm it.
Our objective is not to replace experience. It is to make demonstrated competency visible alongside it.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER
SAVOIR was founded by a healthcare payer configuration professional and leader whose experience spans configuration management, system implementation, operational governance, quality assurance, contract interpretation, testing, and configuration analysis.
Through work with health plans, consulting organizations, and configuration teams, the founder consistently saw the same challenge: organizations are responsible for evaluating professionals who configure complex, high-impact payer systems, yet hiring and consulting decisions often depend heavily on résumés, interviews, references, and years of experience.
Those measures are valuable, but they do not always answer the most important question:
Can this person demonstrate the competency required to perform the work?
That question became the foundation for SAVOIR.
SAVOIR was created to bring greater structure to the profession through specialized education, competency-based assessment, professional credentials, and independent credential verification.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Configuration is a profession worth recognizing.
The professionals responsible for configuring payer systems perform specialized work that requires technical knowledge, analytical judgment, operational understanding, and accountability.
Experience matters. Demonstrated competency matters too.
Years in a role can provide valuable experience, but tenure alone should not be the only signal used to understand professional capability.
Credentials should mean something.
A professional credential should represent more than attendance or course completion. It should communicate that defined requirements have been met and provide a way for that achievement to be verified.
Professional growth should have a path.
From professionals entering configuration to experienced consultants and configuration leaders, SAVOIR is building a framework that recognizes increasing levels of knowledge, judgment, complexity, and responsibility.

SAVOIR is being built with a long-term vision: to help payer configuration mature as a recognized professional discipline with clearer competency expectations, stronger professional development pathways, and credentials that carry meaningful information for both professionals and organizations.
